North Yorkshire Citizens Advice & Law Centre remains the only free, regulated, independent and confidential advice service in the county.
Many Horton in Ribblesdale residents have benefitted from their services over the past year – with the most common problem in the parish being around utility bills and consumer goods.
They are working to ensure that the digital revolution is a benefit, not a hindrance, to local people. They have created digital community hubs offering support in accessing remote video link advice.
Energy issues, and ensuring North Yorkshire residents have heating and hot water, have been at the forefront of their work in 2026. This is due to constantly fluctuating energy price caps combined with events in the Middle East impacting on oil prices. The latter has hit North Yorkshire particularly hard as so many people rely on heating oil. Alongside giving essential energy advice, they were able to respond effectively to the doubling of oil prices by distributing the Crisis & Resilience Fund to those in need.
